European "Supergrid" project comes to a halt

The BBC posted an article about the project of a transnational "supergrid" in the Saharan desert.  The concept was to enable the transmission of electricity generated from renewable sources and particularly solar power from North Africa to the European interconnected grid.  Unfortunately, the project is threatened from many angles, including political concerns and two major participants dropping out.  Read on: Desert power grid article

EPRG Energy & Environment Seminar

On Monday, November 19th, Scott Kelly (EPRG) will present his research on 'new methods for modelling energy and emissions from the English residential sector: combining energy efficiency, behaviour and environmental variables to improve long term projections'.
A short discussion will follow :)

Feel free to join the EPRG in the Castle Teaching Room, JBS, 12.30 – 14.00

Welcome to CUENblogs, our new platform to share current activities and thoughts about all kinds of energy challenges...

We hope you enjoyed our first seminar of this academic year on 12th November 2012!

Dr Filomena La Porta, Head of EDF Smart Energy Supply, introduced us to the world of R&D in the energy sector and its challenges for the future:
'We are facing three big challenges in the energy sector: climate change, security of supply and affordability. R&D has an important role in contributing to tackle these challenges. The aim of the talk is to illustrate the role of R&D in our organisation, our activities globally and in the UK along the energy value chain, from generation to transmission, distribution and supply. Examples of how we engage with the players in the UK energy landscape will be given as well as an introduction to the opportunities to be part of our exciting journey.'
